Hi Mike
Just wondering why do classical guitarists sit like they do? I’ve noticed you too sit in a similar position.
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,
Being a flamenco guitar player I play in a position which is similar to the classical playing position with the neck angle high.
The reason for this is to try and produce the best sound possible (try it and see for yourself). The higher the angle of the neck (acoustic guitars) the better the quality of sound (your right hand should be in the natural playing position). It’s a big ‘no no’ to play an acoustic guitar with the neck pointing down once again due to the quality of sound produced.
This position will also help reach notes past the 12th fret and may help with reducing strain when frets are a fair bit apart (remember to keep the thumb low on the neck to help with reach)
I’m not sure if sound quality improvement applies to electric guitars
