Hi Mike, I’m a newbie so please excuse the simplicity of my question. I am learning eighth notes on my guitar, remember this is only my second lesson, Anyhow the lesson book says to pick the eighth note first down, and then pick up which works fine when your playing the same string, and have a couple or several eighth notes in a row. However, In trying to play “Amazing Grace”, I have a “B” eighth note followed by a “G” eighth note, so what is the correct pick for these notes ? It seems awkward to pick down on both of these eighth notes together. I can’t hardly wait till I get to sixteenth and thirty second notes, Lol. Please Help ?
Hi Karla
Don’t over think it, I tend to use what’s best depending on the passage I’m playing. Alternate picking is definitely a must however sometimes use your common sense on what’s going to be the most efficient way to achieve your goal. Remember the fingerings, picking etc. in the texts are only recommendations.
having said all that you need some experience on what the most efficient path will be. Perhaps think about a few lessons to get over these hurdles
Mike
