   Hi Cass

   Here are a few notes about slide guitar to get you started and we’ll discuss more at our next class
   

   • Usually played with a ‘Slide’ this is a cylindrical object made from glass, porcelain or brass that can be placed over any finger (normally your ring finger). You can use your fingers to slide however you get a better effect when using an actual ‘Slide’.
   • Can be played in standard tuning and in open tuning. Open tuning is done to change the sound of the guitar and help with accessing common chords providing a more chordal harmony (in some cases you can play a C or G with the slide and don’t have to worry about using your other fingers for formation). You don’t need another guitar for this simply re-tune yours then tune back to standard when done.
   • You can slide from note to note or chord to chord to give a great sounding effect.
   • you can combine melodies and slides together. This is often seen in sheet music we’ve covered where you’ll see a straight line connected to another note, this represents a slide.
